Nea Anchialos is built on the ruins of ancient city Pyrasou of Achaias Fthiotida. The oldest information about this city from Homer, says the list of the ships (Iliad V695), together with the Fylaki and Itonias, which constituted the kingdom Protesilaos. According to Strabo (ICH435) who talks for the topography of the 20 stage Pyrasos abstained from the newer city of Thebes Fthiotides. In Pyraso, there was the great temple of Demetra, of which seems to have gained a strong reputation of the city. Perhaps some time, was an important religious center. Long-term excavations have discovered a significant number of buildings of the ancient city. With data collected has undertaken the design determined progress of the wall that surrounded the city. The area surrounding the wall has dimensions of 600 x 480 meters.
